About Us

TSO Friends are a bridge between the orchestra and audience, bringing player and people together, adding to the personal musical experience.

We share a passion for orchestral music and enjoy the fellowship of like-minded enthusiasts.

In the past 21 years over $200,000 has been raised by TSO Friends to support the players through purchase of instruments and provision of amenities.

The TSO Friends Professional Development Scholarship of $1000 is available each year to a TSO musician or group
of musicians.

We encourage young Tasmanian musicians by

  • providing prizes for young instrumentalists at the City of Hobart Eisteddfod, the Launceston Competitions and the City of Devonport Eisteddfod.
  • presenting $450 to the top TCE Music student who continues study at the Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music;
  • awarding the Sabina Heilmann Memorial Prize to two musicians to enable them to attend the annual Australian
    Youth Orchestra camp.
Bridging the gap between the players and the public, the TSO Friends play an important role raising funds and support for the TSO throughout the community.
